The real issue here is that she was blaming the monarchy for all the bad things which have happened and are happening to aboriginal people in Australia.

But even in 1788 it was a constitutional monarchy, which means that the monarch did nothing - it was parliament. When the monarchy gave instructions, it was to treat the locals with care and respect. Which the officials and parliament largely ignored, of course - but since the monarch was a constitutional monarch, they could do nothing about it.

Any troubles aboriginal people have today as a result of bad government can be laid at the feet of parliaments, both state and federal. If Thorpe wants reparations or any other kinds of change, it must happen in parliament. Perhaps Thorpe could stand for parliament, and... oh, wait. Hmmm.

So if there is no positive action, then Senator Thorpe is at least in part to blame. Has she introduced a Reparations Bill into parliament? A Pay The Rent Bill? Or anything else she's mouthed off about?

I do not agree with what she's said, but I don't have any problem with her saying it. What I have a problem with is her mouthing off when she is actually in a position to do something - yet doing nothing. Which shows that she is, quite simply, a grifter. She has no interest in aboriginal welfare, only in her own face being plastered across the news.
