Hello! Wiyabu and Guudji Yiigu (hello and welcome in my Indigenous language, Gathang). Firstly, marrungbu/thankyou for being here and joining our community of feather rufflers. This is my first newsletter, and I’m excited to have the privilege to land in your inbox once a week.
ruffle feathers. is a weekly newsletter discussing the convergence between culture, business, finance and power.
Each week I will share my thoughts on trending topics in business, finance, sport, tech, sustainability, entrepreneurship and what they mean for our culture and power systems. I’ll probably dabble off course, and no doubt will share my other thoughts that may include my:
contrary obsession with Downton Abbey,
passion for elevating women in sport,
complete nonsensical love of F1 and cricket,
The impact AI will have on art and creativity,
my relationship with feminism,
the joy I find in cooking but not cleaning,
and many other musings.
You can see my interests, born from passion and love, are tied up in tension. This newsletter will explore those tensions, the reality of being wrong, how to find nuance and when ask, why is it important to ruffle feathers?
My history with ruffling feathers
I’ve tried for years to be quiet, meek, silent and sit back. I’ve failed miserably. I’m an enneagram 8, an Aquarius, an ENFJ, an Australian Aboriginal woman who is the daughter of the sea and the rivers that rush, smash and soothe.
My career has taken me to places where I speak up, out and loud about the areas of the world that are unjust. It is my belief that my ancestors gave me a compassionate heart and the gift of storytelling, with those two elements, I ruffle feathers.
What to expect from me
I hope to discuss broad, niche, personal and power topics that i find fascinating and that don’t get talked about enough.
What I hope to find in you
I hope we can work together to rebuild strong, respectful and insightful discourse, share ideas, contemplate life, challenge unjust power structures and wrestle with the things that make us human.
If you’ve read this far, marrungbu/thank you - I look forward to ruffling feathers together.
